Mijenta Releases Second Annual Sustainability Report
Mijenta Tequila, the award-winning, additive-free, B Corp-certified tequila from the highlands of Jalisco, today issued its second annual sustainability report.
Released for Earth Month 2024, the report outlines the holistic approach Mijenta takes to producing tequila in a responsible manner. From the brand’s use of sustainable packaging elements, to the agricultural practices it employs, to support for local communities, Mijenta works to ensure that its ethos is reflected across its operations.
This report also highlights initiatives that are new for the brand. This includes supporting a first of its kind model to protect ancestral lands, a way of life, and the local jaguar habitat in Ecuador, led by Fundacion Pachamama, Sharamentsa Achuar leaders and Regen Network Development. Leveraging state-of-the-art monitoring processes and blockchain technology, Mijenta hopes that this pilot program will help to introduce a new standard for Indigenous-led environmental protection programs and transparent, verifiable and meaningful biodiversity credit issuance.
Building on Mijenta’s ongoing partnership with Women’s Earth Alliance (WEA), the report also details the six recently announced WEA Program Leads, which are women-led, Mexico-based organizations operating throughout the country. With the goal of uplifting women’s leadership, entrepreneurship, and environmental impact within the agricultural sector, the organizations selected by WEA focus on addressing a range of agricultural, environmental, health and land-related issues.
“I am extremely honored to share the work that we’ve done this past year, which continues to build on our brand’s core ethos. I’m particularly inspired by how the partnerships we’ve created have grown to have impact beyond what we could have imagined,” said Elise Som, Co-Founder and Director of Sustainability. “This year will mark another significant milestone in our sustainability journey, and I’m excited to share more as we progress.”
